It may feel like a different era entirely, but it wasn’t too long ago when Sacai was in the conversation for the most important Nike collaborators. While they’ve receded a bit fom that point since, perhaps a tightened focus is for the better; shifting to quality over quantity has, at the least, made a strong impression in their last few capsules. Following an initial Paris Fashion week tease, the Sacai Nike Zegamadome SP is officially on the way.
The most lasting memories for the sneaker public at large may be Sacai’s overhauls of lifestyle models, incredibly visible with their overhauls of the Blazer, Waffle Racer and Cortez around the turn of the decade. However, this eye towards the more utilitarian side of the Swoosh archive is a budding obsession for the Japanese imprint, visited with the Magmascape in 2023.
In similar fashion to that boot style, the Zegamadome pushes two archival models together, grafting the sectioned sole from the Magma Dome onto the modern Zegama trail runner, crucially retailing the Zoom X cushioning under the heel. Jump to the upper to see how the engineered mesh foundation of the 80s model sticks around, while the elevated panels of the Zegama naturally segues into trademark Sacai layering, resulting in quick succession shifts through mesh, synthetics, suede and rubber as you run down the lateral side. To close, double lacing and a double Swoosh help the well-established experimental Sacai spirit alive within the bounds of these pieces of performance wear.
Showcasing a bit more restraint than usual Sacai deliveries, the Nike Zegamadome SP delivers three initial colorways on May 9th via the Sacai site: a white/gum, black/white, and the one that’ll be most digestible given their vibrant backlog, a black/grey/yellow. Retail for all three is set at $180 — catch official images of each included below, and keep our Sneaker Release Dates page close by for further updates on when to expect a wider launch.
